Not to Scale
1. Load Analysis
The beam self-weight is calculated based on a concrete density of $24 \text{ kN/m}^3$. The factored design load $w_u$ is determined using the combination $1.2D + 1.6L$.
2. ACI Moment Coefficients (Chapter 14)
Moments are calculated based on ACI 318 Coefficients for a continuous beam with more than two spans.
- Exterior Neg: $1/16$ (Column support)
- End Span Pos: $1/14$ (Integral support)
- First Interior Neg: $1/10$ (More than 2 spans)
- Interior Pos: $1/16$
3. Reinforcement Calculation
Steel area $A_s$ is calculated using the strength design method ($M_u = \phi A_s f_y (d - a/2)$).
The number of bars is checked against the beam width to ensure proper spacing and concrete flow.
Sanity Check: Minimum reinforcement $\rho_{min}$ and maximum reinforcement $\rho_{max}$ (for tension control) are verified.

4. Shear Check
The maximum shear occurs at the face of the first interior support.
